Year 3/4: Symbolic Art

The Year 3/4s have been looking at the work of Gustav Klimt and learning about symbolism in art. We began by discussing Klimt's Tree of Life.

 

The children planned a piece of art in which the different elements represented something other than themselves. Many chose to base their design on someone in their family or on a significant experience in their past:

Once the children had decided on their design, they were able to start on their final piece using their sketchbook drawings and notes as a reference:

One of the best things about these lessons was hearing the often moving discussions as the children explained the significance of their painting and the reasons behind their artistic decisions to each other and to Mr Carminati!
