Year 1: Peter Thorpe Rockets

Having spent the last lesson mastering chalk pastel and paint techniques, the children were ready to create their own artwork inspired by the rocket paintings of Peter Thorpe.

They practised drawing rockets on a whiteboard and then added planets to their design. When they were happy with their composition, they began their final piece using chalk pastel on black paper.

The children were now adept at blending chalk pastel, adding paint by using a variety of objects as stamps. We also learned how to use scrap paper as a mask during the later stages of our work:

The Year 1s used the techniques that we had practised to great effect in their rocket pictures and I think that the finished results look amazing!
